Update_07.24.09_8:30AM

Text from Sonya:

Met with RIC care team and they estimate 12 weeks for Nathan to be here. Hopefully his trach comes out next week so we can take him outside. His appetite is getting much better too! In fact, he requested we order a pizza last night!

The RIC is fantastic! Nathan's care team is amazing.

Mom is doing the same.

Update_07.20.09_1:00PM

Text from Sonya:

Nathan is transfering to RIC today at 2:00! Thank goodness for many reasons. Mom will still stay at Holy Faimly on vent treatments. She's doing the same.

It was just approved for Nathan to see Mom before he leaves Holy Family. They haven't seen each other since the accident. A very precious and awesome moment!

Text from Sonya:

Haley turned two yesterday and got to visit Nathan and Mom. Both were ecstatic to see her. Mom was very alert yesterday and Haley definitely knew who her Oma is!

Nathan was moved to a normal room in Holy Family. We are just waiting for a bed at RIC to open up. Yeahhhhh God!

Update_07.14.09_12:00PM

Text from Sonya:

Nathan passed his swallowing test! He can begin to incorporate fluids and food! Yeahhhhhhh!!! Also, he passed his vent test. He's OFF the ventilator permanently!!! He's breathing on his own. Hopefully a move to RIC spinal rehab facility is in the very near future.

Mom is the same and stable and still on the vent but awake sometimes.

7 - 08 - 09

The last several days have gone with little change. Nathan is still breathing well on his own, and participating as much as he can with his PT. However, since he has started to regain sensation in his upper and lower extremities, he's also begun to feel the aches and pains as well.
Mom is also doing well, she is still receiving CPAP treatment and returning to her normal baseline. She is reacting a little to verbal and physical stimulation. Once again we would like to thank everyone for there love and support.

Update_07.03.09_2:45PM

Text from Sonya:

Mom was moved to the same facility as Nathan now. Much easier!

Nathan's been breathing on his own for about an hour now. Yeah!!!!!! They had a voice trach put on to get his vocal cords working. It was good to hear his voice!

Mom is still trached and we foresee her being completely dependent on it now. Her kidneys are hanging in there, but we are keeping a close eye. Also, the fluid in her brain is increasing.
