Nathan is doing well and improving daily. His peep level is staying consistent at 5! The tracheotomy that was originally scheduled for today has been postponed for a few days. Yesterday the doctors gave him quite a lung work-out. One of his lungs started to collapse, which was quickly attended to. For that reason, they want to hold off a few days on the procedure to ensure that no unneeded pressure is put on him. When the tracheotomy does occur, it will relieve some of the discomfort that he currently feels. On Wednesday, Nathan's sedation levels were lowered and we was awake for about six hours. He is still very haisy, but was able to respond to questions through nods and facial expressions.
Mrs. Schuster is being cared for primarily by her mother, although other family is at the house to help. Earlier this week, she was visited by a long-time family friend, Mary Carlson. This meant the world to all of the Schusters. At this point, Mrs. Schuster's memory is limited, but she remembered Mary! At night, Mrs. Schuster called out "Mary! Where's my friend, Mary?" She went back to sleep and I hope she had dreams of those who love her.
Please keep Mr. Schuster in your thoughts and prayers. He continues to amaze all of us with his unconditional love and appreciation for all those around him. His hugs are heart-felt and extended. He's an amazing man with such a kind heart.
The Schusters are so appreciative of the love, support and prayers extended to all them. The best means to get in contact with them is through email. Their sleep schedules change daily and many calls/texts through the day can interject with naps/procedures/conversations with doctors/nurses.
