Update_06.18.09_3:00PM

Ryan will be under-going surgery on his knee in the next few weeks once the swelling of it goes down. Although not critical, but to support his active life-style, the doctors would like to address the torn ligaments in his knee. He continues to have pain in his left hip due to a large hematoma. The doctors believe that the pain will decrease once this goes down (2-3 weeks). He continues to use his cane to walk...and get the remote....and reach for the water bottle across the table....and grab someone walking past :)

As you can see from Brittany's messages below, she will not need surgery on her back! She continues to battle with pain control, but will be getting a second opinion shortly on how to address this.

Nathan has been undergoing physical therapy. They are currently working with him to gain muscle control while sitting up - On Wednesday, he was able to sustain sitting for 15 minutes - This is a huge improvement over previous days, when he needed much support to sustain for 5. He also has feeling up to his kneecaps! With the trach, he is unable to speak, but the family is getting a good practice in reading lips.

Please continue to keep the entire Schuster family in your thoughts. Already grieving Mrs. Schuster's condition, the family's world was further turned upside down nearly a month ago. Please pray that they are able to find the balance in finding happiness in everyday improvements as well as the support that they need to address conditions that they cannot change.

As always, please feel free to call me at any time.

With love,
Colette Monahan
